The last tournament of 2019 comes with an exciting subplot. As the world’s elite gather at The O2 in London, two legends will battle it out to see who will finish the year with the coveted number 1 spot on the ATP rankings. This article will discuss the favourites for the outright winner of this exciting tournament and what are the odds at probably one of the best sports betting online casinos: Bet365!
Novak Djokovic – Bet365 Outright Odds 6/5
Novak Djokovic looked virtually untouchable at recently, winning the Paris Masters tournament. He heads to London with the number 1 ranking in his sights.
Wimbledon winner Djokovic recently added 1,000 ATP Rankings points to his tally. At 8,945 points, he is just 640 points below of Spain’s Rafael Nadal, who stands at 9,585.
Djokovic came close to winning the Nitto ATP last year, but was beaten by Alexander Zverev in the final. If he can win this year, he is guaranteed to finish 2019 with the ATP number 1 ranking.
According to Bet365, he is a very clear favourite. Still, this bet seems very low value, as you can get just extra 20% for your stake
Rafael Nadal – Bet365 Outright Odds 11/2
Nadal might be an interesting underdog pick. He mention last week that he is super happy with his season. And deservedly so, he went 51-6 this season, picking up titles in Montreal and Rome and winning both the French Open and the US Open.
Nadal is clearly motivated, however, he has been dealing with injuries recently. At the Paris Masters, last week, he was forced to pull out at semi-final stage with an abdominal injury. His coach stated that he should be fine. His opening match will be against defending champion Zverev on Monday.
One statistic that is against him is his record indoors. Nadal has won 84 singles titles in his stellar career, though only two of them have been indoors.
Roger Federer – Bet365 Outright Odds 13/4
The great Swiss player has won at The 02 twice already, but his last win there dates back to 2011. Unlike Nadal, Federer is at his best indoors, and recently cruised his way to winning in Basel. However, many question marks surround this elite player. He has been beaten eight times this year, six times by other players playing at this week’s Nitto ATP Finals.
We predict he can make it past the group fase, but winning the tournament seems a big ask.
My Pick: Daniil Medvedev – Bet365 Outright Odds 5/1
Medvedev has had a magical 2019, and a victory here would put the cherry on the cake. He is in a tough group, with Nadal, Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas. While Nadal is a tough outing for any player, he has already beaten Tsitsipas five times.
Summary
If Djokovic is at his best, there will be little competition for him. However, he has not managed to win the Nitto ATP Finals since 2015, and there is not much value in the 6/5 odds offered. While Nadal is an interesting pick, and Federer always does well indoors, I expect Daniil Medvedev to make a statement to finish the season and prove he is a real contender in next year’s tournaments. At 5/1, his odds are at great value.
